Transcript source: http://www.sustainablestyle.org/sass/heirbrains/03suzuki.html Editor's note: The following is the transcript of the speech that Severn Suzuki gave to the Plenary Session at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio Centro, Brazil. Severn was twelve years old. SASS feels there is no better example of a young person standing up and speaking on behalf of something in which they truly believe, for the betterment of themselves and the world around them.
We are a group of twelve and thirteen-year-olds from Canada trying to make a difference: Losing my future is not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market. I am here to speak for all generations to come. I am here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard. I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet because they have nowhere left to go. We cannot afford to be not heard.

What is Gore-tex®? Published on: December 26th, 2007
Modified on: December 26th, 2007
"...Essentially Gore-tex is a Teflon-treated synthetic polymer — a plastic. Teflon is a brand name for tetrafluoroethylene / polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Generally, all plastics are made by the process of combining many toxic chemicals into long chain molecules called polymers using great heat and pressure. The process is never 100% perfect, meaning that there are always toxic chemicals that leach or migrate into whatever comes into contact with them — food, drink, air and you. Teflon is no different. Make no doubt about it, Teflon does leach toxic chemicals into whatever contacts it. According to a Russian study in 1978, in water that had contacted the material, fluor ions and organofluorine compounds were detected.(1) In another study, benzene was found.(2)..."

by Dale Allen Pfeiffer Cartoon Day When I was a child, Saturday was my favorite day of the week. On Saturday, all of the networks ran cartoons from early morning until noon. All morning, I would veg out while watching my favorite shows, with occasional breaks to bounce around the room pretending I was some superhero. One day I was strolling along the shore of one of the Great Lakes with my father and my Grandfather. Somehow I must have brought up the subject of Saturday morning cartoons. My dad told me that when he was a kid, they did not have televisions. My Grandfather took it one step farther, stating that when he was my age, they did not even have radios. I thought about this for a moment, then I turned to my Grandfather and asked, "What did you do on Cartoon Day?"

Marijuana Conspiracy - the Sequel Published on: May 31st, 2007
Modified on: January 25th, 2011
In 2005, this writer penned ‘The Real Reason Marijuana is Illegal’ and it became (by far) my most popular article. Translated into Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Swedish, Bulgarian and even Japanese, the responses were overwhelming. Its premise was ‘marijuana’ became illegal NOT because it was a danger to the mind and body. No, the real reason is that Big Business wants us to use petrochemicals and fossil fuels. They have little interest in NATURAL solutions. THEY have suppressed the truth concerning cannabis and purposely created the ‘menace of marijuana.’ Why? So they remain high profiteers while destroying our environment in the process. Once people read the news of what has been kept from them, the truth, the reactions were outrage and disbelief at our federal authorities. Hemp used properly for all of its INDUSTRIAL purposes, as it was always meant to be utilized, could… So many people wrote to me and said the suppression of hemp is ‘insane.’ Surely, governments know the potential of pot. They understand how cannabis hemp could solve the energy crisis; they know biodegradable plastics could be produced from the hemp plant; they realize it would be a safer, cleaner world filled with (inexpensive) quality products…if only we were federally given the green light to INDUSTRIALIZE HEMP! Governments are well aware of the MEDICINAL value for ‘weed.’ New cloths, papers and plastics would be super durable. They could easily create nutritional FOOD products for a starving world. BUT…when did a better mousetrap ever see the light of day? Now, with soaring gas prices bleeding us for every dollar inflating all prices, we need a cheap (renewable) fuel and energy source more than ever. Imagine hemp gas. The price of it would not be sky high since we have a limitless supply of hempen energy. Federal (guarded) hemp fields could be farmed and directed to produce a cheap/clean gasoline. Hemp fibers and oil were utilized during WWII for rope-moorings, parachutes and lubrication. Why not use hemp gasoline NOW when we are at another critical point in time? Why does hemp technology remain clandestine? Why is there a war in the Middle East over oil? Do you really think it’s a coincidence that George Bush is an oilman and remains steadfast against bringing our troops home? Hemp petroleum is the way to alleviate us from dependency on foreign oil. That is a wonderful dream, cannabis as the means to bring our troops home! Email replies to the original article mainly asked WHY? Why don’t the authorities appreciate the profits to be made from hemp products? Money rules the world, so why don’t the industrialists make it legal? Tax hemp, regulate it, make it legal not for altruistic purposes but for their own high profits! The planet and its people would be much healthier. Why the HELL isn’t this done? There are no easy answers. Generally, my reply to these readers scratching their befuddled heads was ‘secret societies.’ We are not educated on how the world really functions. We grow up watching movies and television where the good guys always win. We are trained to think that our government is good and out for the benefit of all. Films portray the heroes as CIA, FBI, NSA agents or obedient soldiers and police. We are given the false hope that governments care. Please do not be so naïve as to think this is true.

MERLib.org - Modern Energy Research Library Published on: November 5th, 2005
Modified on: November 23rd, 2005
I've just opened my new site Modern Energy Research Library - MERLib.org The site is still very young and under construction. After running Mediawiki for a while on http://777001.com I decided to migrate to Drupal instead and came up with the new domain name The current focus of attention is Victor_Schauberger and his insights into implosion technology and vortexes, the natural movement of water and air, and the concept of looking at, comprehending, and replicating the self-sustaining processes of nature.

Who was Viktor Schauberger? Published on: May 26th, 2005
Modified on: May 26th, 2005
by Morten Ovesen, the Malmö group.
Viktor Schauberger around 40 years old. A brief biography could be like this: Viktor Schauberger was an Austrian forester who was active during the first half of the 19:th century. He had a huge beard and a friendly laughter, this he combined with an uncompromising belief in himself and his ideas. He was obstinate in combination with a choleric temper. He was a good drawer and probably a skilled craftsman. Even if Viktor was not schooled the academic way he had a deep knowledge in biology, physics and chemistry. His sense and understanding on how water flows in the nature was exceptional. From his observations he formulated his new hydrodynamic basic theory. His friends and opponents described him as highly intelligent and with this intellectual sharpness he made a deep cut in his (and ours) physical paradigm.

The Long Emergency What's going to happen as we start running out of cheap gas to guzzle? Published on: March 31st, 2005
Modified on: March 31st, 2005
By James Howard Kunster
"Our lives will become profoundly and intensely local. . . Food production is going to be an enormous problem in the Long Emergency. As industrial agriculture fails due to a scarcity of oil- and gas-based inputs, we will certainly have to grow more of our food closer to where we live, and do it on a smaller scale. The American economy of the mid-twenty-first century may actually center on agriculture, not information, not high tech, not "services" like real estate sales or hawking cheeseburgers to tourists. Farming. This is no doubt a startling, radical idea, and it raises extremely difficult questions about the reallocation of land and the nature of work." http://i.am/jah/greeneco.htm

The Most Important Thing You Don't Know About "Peak Oil" Published on: March 23rd, 2005
Modified on: April 6th, 2005
March 16, 2005 "When nothing happens for a long time, people begin to assume that nothing ever happens. But, sooner or later, something always happens."-- Steven Lagavulin There's an aspect to the concept of "Peak Oil" which I don't believe is sufficiently grasped by people following the subject. It's the understanding that the most dangerous aspect we face is not really the state of the resource itself -- the actual "Peak" dates or depletion rates, or any of the physical realities of oil supply/demand -- but rather the reaction in the oil markets upon realization that the issue no longer even important.

Weather Modification Published on: December 3rd, 2004

So yesterday as some of you already know on the cable (timewarner) channel of the science channel they did a whole show on weather modification and let me tell you it was incredibly informative and not as chintzy as one would expect to see on tv. I wrote down what I could as our vcr does not work so here is what I
got... This company manufactured and then later sprayed this gelatinous
substance and they dropped tons of this stuff (looks just like dippity
doo hair gel) into a cloud and the blobs simply fell to the ground. The
owner of this privately owned company is Peter Cordoni(sp).

Lost in space: the killer screwdriver Published on: October 13th, 2004
Modified on: October 13th, 2004
"Civilized", "techologically advanced" mankind is destroying planet earths ecosystem at a staggering rate, and now we are littering space too...insane
Bolts, old screwdrivers, plastic bags, paint, broken pens, bent CDs - they are the kind of objects you would expect to find in a list of rubbish. Except that this collection of litter is not to be found in the bin at the end of the front garden, but whizzing about in space, threatening to collide with astronauts. Astronomers working for the European Space Agency (ESA) warned yesterday that space is so full of rubbish that it has become a danger to the people and satellites in it. A team from the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics predicted that it will have detected around 100,000 fragments of space rubbish by the time it has finished a definitive catalogue.... ---------clip--- follow link for complete article, also see: http://i.am/jah/why.htm

Giant Space Shield Plan To Save Planet Published on: January 13th, 2004
Modified on: January 13th, 2004
By Mark Townsend Just like doctors prescribing medicine to their customer$...I mean patients, as a remedy, these scientists (or the people with power) do not not address the CAUSE of global warming, instead they let the global warming and destruction of the earths ecosystem continue.(and continue making $$profit $$) and just put a big shield up in the sky to make it all better. Ofcourse someone is going to earn massive amounts of $$ from the projects outlined below... -100777.com
Humanity could not exist without it - yet in an extraordinary plan that underlines the catastrophic implications of climate change, scientists now want to curb the Sun's life-giving influence to save mankind from its biggest threat: global warming. Key talks involving the Government's most senior climate experts have produced proposals to site a massive shield on the edge of space that would deflect the Sun's rays and stabilise the climate. Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of metallic 'scatterers' would be ejected into the upper atmosphere under the plans. In addition, billions of tiny barrage balloons could serve as a secondary barrier to block rays from the Earth's nearest star. On land, giant reservoirs holding saline water could be built to offset the rise in sea levels caused by the melting of the polar ice-caps. The oceans, too, would be modified to cope with the planet's increasingly warmer weather. Massive floating cloud-making machines would be dotted across their surface while, below, large plantations of algae would be grown to absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. The theories were discussed by Britain's most eminent climatologists at a meeting in Cambridge last week to analyse the latest theories to tackle the problem of the planet heating up. They included the Government's chief scientist, Sir David King, who warned last week that climate change was the most severe problem facing civilisation. Professor John Schellnhuber, former chief environmental adviser to the German government and head of the UK's leading group of climate scientists at the Tyndall Centre, said: 'These are exotic ideas and we probably will have to come up with the right mixture. But the problem has not gone away, so we think this analysis is just in time. 'The present climate policy does not seem to be working. We are not saying we have the magic bullet, but this is a desperate situation and people should start thinking about the unconventional. Preventative plans on a larger scale are needed.' Environmentalists maintain that the solutions are so radical they serve only to underscore how unprepared governments are to deal with the threat. Last week researchers predicted that a quarter of land animals and plants will die out because of global warming over the next 50 years.
